[COLUMN] 1984 BAC-1-11 G-AXMU BIA/Virgin Atlantic: The reality...

Postby Guido » 11 Mar 2017, 15:27

And so...Finally, four months after Branson's announcement Virgin Atlantic started up a regular flight LGW-MST-LGW. But not a daily one, but a four flights a week one with only services on day 4, 5, 6, and 7. And the 747 was replaced by a leased BAC-1-11 from British Island Airways, as agreed with the Dutch department of traffic. Untill summer 1985 the G-AXMU was responsible for the Virgin flights between LGW and MST.
On the picture you see the G-AXMU on the A-apron on one of her first Virgin flights to MST. The BAC had a hybrid livery with BIA colours and titels on the fuselage and a Virgin tail.
