Today, july 31th , Corendon was operated with an A-340-313 . ( see topic Pictures Hifly Malta 9H-TQM )

What was the reason for using that (bigger) plane . More capacity needed ? or another reason .

Will plane also be used for the return trip later on ?

Correct. Also the reason why they hired in an A320 recently. They do that more often to cope with the summer peak season

Couldel be, but not necessarily, because their markets are different. Corendon flights are for the largest part filled with package deals (hotel+ticket in one deal). Germania just offers flights. Of course Corendon also has the possibility to book just the flight, but this is quite expensive compared with Germania. I think both flights could exist simultaneously from MST.

Just thinking/speculating, I have been checking the flight days and frequencies for 2018 and we now have:

Mon: 3
Tue: 1
Wed: 4
Thu: 2
Fri: 3
Sat: 3
Sun: 1

Could this quite busy but balanced schedule, with perhaps one or more flights on Tuesday and Sunday still to be added, be an indication of an a/c to be based at MST for S18?

I thought the same (I think possible destinations are Rhodos or Burgas since these are very popular from AMS)

The current AYT flight is operated by Corendon. All current other destinations are operated by Corendon Dutch Airlines.
The S18 schedule indicates that the AYT flight is transferred and also operated by Corendon Dutch Airlines. This means that all (new) destinations are flown by Corendon Dutch Airlines. So I guess Corendon Dutch Airlines will base a plane at MST?

Looks like Corendon is securing slots before others ( schiphol overflow ) are coming and I believe that
Corendon make use from the financial backing, granted by "Brussel" to start new routes from MAA.
(see news aug. 7th MAA section)

But nevertheless more destination choice are welcome and make the airport more actrative for all
parties. Spotters included.

I do really wonder to what extent that these routes are subsidized Popijopi, most are already served from other airports in the region and no overlap was a strict requirement to prevent unfair competition.

The nearest airport (Liege) does not serve Catania or Ibiza and for me it's clear that Eindhoven or Koln is indeed another region.
