[COLUMN] 1983 Transavia B737-200 PH-TVR

Let's go back to 1983 and enjoy the Transavia livery of those days. What we see here is B737-200 PH-TVR coming in from Palma on a Wednesday afternoon. Transavia had several charters from Maastricht in 1983. Destinations were twice a week Palma and once a week Malaga. Looks like the jet noise was not...

[COLUMN] 1986 Conflicts and diversions Belgium and Zaire - Part 4

Scibe Zaïre is the subject in the final part about conflicts and and diversions between Belgium and Zaïre. The airliner was founded in 1976 as SBZ Cargo. After some years the airline started domestic PAX services with two B727's. Lateron a 707 came into their fleet. In 1986 they started their flight...

[COLUMN] 1983 Conflicts and diversions Belgium and Zaire - Part 3

In the winter of 1984 MST became a new cargo airliner from Zaïre, named Zaïre Cargo. With a single DC-8 they flewn twice a week between Kinshasa and Maastricht. But by the time they started their operations at MST there wasn't a conflict between Belgium and Zaïre at all. But six weeks after the star...

[COLUMN] 1983 Conflicts and diversions Belgium and Zaire - Part 2

In the fall of 1983 African Air Charter DC-8-53F 9Q-CQM paid a visit to Maastricht as another conflict between Belgium and Zaïre occured. This Eight was a well known aircraft on Dutch soil as it was delivered in 1962 to KLM as PH-DCR. Actually the Douglas was meant for Philippine Airlines, but not t...

[COLUMN] 1982 Conflicts and diversions Belgium and Zaire - Part 1

Zaire, as former Belgian colony, had regulary conflicts with the Belgians about all kinds of things. The anger of the Zaire's government made them decide in every conflict that Air Zaïre as national carrier had to case all operations in Belgium. So Air Zaire's daily DC-10 PAX flight came to a stop a...

[COLUMN] 1984-1992 Emery Worldwide Charters: CF Air Freight

When CF Air Freight took over Emery Worldwide sometimes it happend that one of their DC-8-62CF's were present on a Emery flight. But in 1989 a CF B707 appeared on a Emery flight on a December Saturdaymorning during the Christmas peak. The N526SJ was leased from Southern Air Transport but in full CF ...

Re: [COLUMN] 1984-1992 Emery Worldwide Charters: Trans International Airlines

At cargo North, Bjorn. This was before they expanded the cargobuilding. The expanding took place in 1986 when Emery started their flights. Therefore cargo North was as half as big as it is now what gave the oppertunity to take pics on the southside of the apron. On this pic, with Air Zaïre DC-8-63CF...

[COLUMN] 1984-1992 Emery Worldwide Charters: Trans International Airlines

Trans International Airlines was another Emery Charter in 1988. They sended a couple of times an Eight across the pond to help out. [COLUMN] 1984-1992 Emery Worldwide Charters: Arrow Air

I believe the Arrow Air DC-8's, operating for Emery Worldwide, showed up more frequent as I've seen them at MST. The only one I´ve seen was DC-8-63CF N661AV. It came to MST in the late fall of 1988 on a Emery flight. However, the lady's departure was not going like it use to do. As she was taxing ou...

[COLUMN] 1984-1992 Emery Worldwide Charters: Interstate Airlines

In the blistering cold winter of 1986 Interstate Airlines, operating two DC-8-62CF's became a weekly Emery service on Sunday afternoon. They kept the flights going for about a year, kicking off with the N729PL. This pic is taken in the spring of 1986. https://s18.postimg.org/rsh3hop95/N729_PL_0002.j...

[COLUMN] 1984-1992 Emery Worldwide Charters: Southern Air Transport

Emery Worldwide once in a while hired some other airplanes to get the job done. One of them was Southern Air Transport who helped Emery out with a bunch of B707's. https://s13.postimg.org/f2ng0g8jb/N525_SJ.jpg B707 N525SJ appeared for the first time in the spring of 1988. https://s16.postimg.org/nhr...

[COLUMN] 1984-1992 Emery Worldwide Part 4

In 1989 Emery Worldwide was aquired by CF Airfreight, what basicly leaded to the end of Emery Worldwide operations at Maastricht, as CF had their hub in Brussels. However, this was not the only reason of CF's decision to cease all MST operations in 1992. The protest's and the cases in court of the &...
