Air Holland was Dutch charter airline, founded in 1984 by John Block. Initially Air Holland was forced by the Dutch government to operate from regional airports like Rotterdam and Maastricht but the company fighted this in court, with succes.
So Air Holland was able to operate their charterflights from Amsterdam, however, in 1984 they did some charterflights from Maastricht while their case was settled by the court. On this pic, taken in October 1986 Air Holland B727-200 PH-AHB diverted the evening before from Amsterdam to Maastricht due to fog, where it was parked at the B-apron. As Air Holland operations decided to ferry the passengers the following morning by bus from AMS to MST the crew taxied the B727 from the B- to the A-apron. A towbar for pull/pushing B727's was not available in those days and even the tractor the airport had was a very old model.
I captured the 727 that morning while underway from B to A, unfortunally with my famous Kodakcolor 55D pocketcam.
Pictures and stories from Maastricht Airport in the early years.
