[COLUMN] 1991 GPA Expressair. How Eastern Airlines B757-200 N524EA became LTU B757-200 D-AMUU

Late winter 1991 we became the information that LTU purchased a former Eastern Airlines Boeing 757. Rumours said the 757 should be repainted at GPA-Expressair at MST. Now that was nice because a few months earlier Eastern Airlines went bankrupt. So we waited patiently untill the rumour came true by the news GPA-Expressair became the order to repaint B757-200 N524EA into LTU livery. And so the 757 came in, I believe late in the evening or very early in the morning some day, I can't remember. Like the most of us, I had to be happy with this picture on a Saturdaynoon...

It took a couple of weeks, because GPA was busy repainting a bunch of KLM Fokker-100's as they were wfu. But after the PH-KLE came out all white, the Boeing went inside.

I was out on the job when the 757 came out a week later. It took more than a year, the 30th of April 1992, when I was able the catch the 757 as D-AMUU of LTU. Because of a massive strike in Germany that day MST changed into Little Düsseldorf wich was the reason LTU had many diversions into MST.
