Recently I came back from a trip to the Yukon region in Canada, which was beautiful! During my 3 weeks there I had some time to do some spotting at the local airports. Canada is great for catching some exotic aircraft which don't fly in Europa anymore since years. Anyhow, lets get the show on the road shall we

The trip began with 3 flights taking me from AMS-MUC-YVR-YXY in 13,5 hours of flight time operated by an Air Dolomiti E190, Lufthansa A346 and an Air Canada Express CRJ700 respectively.

After a 1,5 hour overlay at MUC the trip went on to YVR on Lufthansa A346 D-AIHL. The route MUC-YVR took us way north above the pole circle and offered some spectacular views above Greenland, which I won't forget very soon. The picture is taken from seat 37K

The last flight on an Air Canada CRJ700 taking us from YVR to YXY began after an 4,5 (!) hour overlay at YVR.
The Yukon is a territory in the northwest of Canada with as capital Whitehorse and Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport (YXY) is the biggest airport in the whole of Yukon. YXY isn't much bigger than MST and is situated on a plateau just besides the town of Whitehorse. It is a great airport to do some spotting with many places for you to see the planes. It is the homebase of Air North serving the whole of Yukon. Besides Air North, Condor flies to Frankfurt and Air Canada Express and Westjet to Vancouver.

While we were in the Yukon, the military was doing an earthquake exercise in the area which saw some military aircraft visiting YXY to bring equipment and men. First up I saw this Chinook of the RCAF

After this we were off doing a 9 day canoe trip down the Yukon river, taking us 256km into the outback. No luxury of planes or toilets or WiFi here, just camping in the wild and the sound of silence (and sometimes a pack of wolves

The next picture I took i one with a story. While we were arranging a gletjser flight and flyby alongside the biggest mountain of Canada with a ski plane, 2 RCAF CH-146's flew by the little gravel strip of Silver City Airport. The pilot we've been talking with jumped in his ski plane and hailed them to ask what they were up to, knowing I was an airplane enthusiast. After a few minutes he came back and said that he arranged they would come back and do a flyby over the gravel strip. So there I was, in the middle of the gravel strip, lying on the ground clicking away while the two helicopters flew over my head at about 8m above the ground.

And then it was time to go back home, just before boarding at YXY I took this picture

At YVR I had an overlay of 4 hours again, so what better way to kill the time by doing some spotting. More pictures from YVR to come but I couldn't resist showing you this one.

That's it folks, I hope you enjoyed this trip report.
